New programs offered for families that home school

Four new programs for home-schooled children are being offered this fall by Iowa State University Scott County Extension. They are:

* In 4-H Clover Kids, K-3 children will explore science, strengthen motor skills and learn to work in a group setting from 1 to 3 p.m. first and third Thursdays. The cost is $10 per year.

* Hands-on Academic Workshops for K-3 will offer opportunities to practice and apply concepts in life, earth and physical science, social studies and culture and arts. Mini-series sessions will run from 1 to 3 p.m. second and fourth Thursdays. Each mini-series is $10.

* In 4-H Community Club, children in grades 4 and older will work in project areas and life skills. Community Club will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. the first and third Thursdays. Cost is $35 per year.

* Science Academies for grades 4 to 6 will develop science processing skills and application. Three academies with five to six sessions each focusing on different science areas will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays and cost $40 each.
